...but often times better than a master of one.
Creating compelling content like photos and film poses several challenges for small or independent businesses, and staying relevant amidst rapidly evolving trends and technological advancements adds another layer of complexity, demanding continuous adaptation and innovation.
Balancing day-to-day operations with content creation can stretch limited time, budget and manpower, requiring efficient planning and execution. Given these constraints, opportunities must deliver longevity and multiple uses, ensuring maximum return on investment and sustained relevance in the competitive digital landscape.
This case study demonstrates how, with careful planning, I was able to help the Coastal Exploration Company share a small part of their story while minimising disruption and cost and maximising the experience value.
Background
The Coastal Exploration Campany sails traditional wooden boats along the Norfolk Coast. They wanted to showcase their recent addition of Bromptons, the renowned folding bicycle, to their fleet. With a vision to capture the seamless integration of Brompton bikes into their sailing adventures, my task was to deliver captivating photo and video content that authentically portrayed their use case.
Objective
The primary goal was to create compelling visual content highlighting Brompton bikes' versatility and practicality in their day-to-day operations. The challenge lay in delivering this content efficiently, keeping costs low and minimising disruption to the Coastal Exploration Company's operations.
Approach
To address these challenges, we worked together to develop a comprehensive storyboard. This storyboard enabled us to outline key routes and locations along the Norfolk Coast. It ensured a coherent and authentic narrative for the visual content creation process, and it even enabled us to identify an opportunity to use an actual operational task to create the content.
Execution
This detailed planning process enabled me to anticipate opportunities to gather content. As a result, I could gather both stills and videos concurrently.
Deliverables
I provided the client with a comprehensive photo pack showcasing the integration of Brompton bikes into their sailing adventures. Additionally, I delivered a graphically designed carousel image for social media, a short film that captured the essence of their collaboration, and two reels garnering additional attention across digital platforms.
Photo Pack
Comprising around 50 images, all edited and formatted ready for instagram as per the client's request.
Carousel
Using five images selected from the photo pack and combined with a bespoke background that quietly hints at Coastal Exploration Company's long-standing partners and combined with short text that tells the story of the day.
Short Film
Edited ready for YouTube, but sharable via instagram, the video provides a short story of the day and was provided with licensed music.
Reels
Reels like this enable the Coastal Exploration Company to share messages quickly. In this instance it is a quick skills share, but equally it could be an ethos or values messages - for example, the importance of gathering litter on expeditions in order to protect the environment in which they work.
In this instance I provided the reels without sound or music so that the client could use trending music on the instagram platform.
Results
The tailored content highlighted the successful integration of Brompton and showcased its longstanding relationships with other partners. By focusing on values and ethos, the range also anticipates future requirements and reinforces the Coastal Exploration Company's commitment to social responsibility and sustainability.
Conclusion
Through detailed planning, creative execution, and a keen understanding of the client's vision, I successfully delivered a visually compelling narrative that showcased the synergy between traditional sailing and modern mobility.
